Attorney Ben J. Whitman Shares Electrocution Liability and Litigation Strategies with Broward County Trial Lawyers Association

In the News BY

On Tuesday, May 7, West Palm Beach personal injury attorney Ben J. Whitman presented “Aerial Device and Landscaper Electrocution Case Strategies” to the Broward County Trial Lawyers Association (BCTLA).

Utility employees, landscapers, electricians, and engineers face an increased risk of electrocution – especially in Florida where the landscaping industry generates more than $1.6 billion on an annual basis.

Earlier this year Whitman reached a confidential settlement in an electrocution case resulting in paraplegia. Our client, a private landscaper, was pruning sabal palm trees at a home in Sarasota County while standing on a metal ladder. During his pruning, he pushed some palm fronds into a nearby conductor and caused a mild electric shock that resulted in a temporary loss of mobility. He lost his grip on the ladder and fell, sustaining several rib fractures and a thoracic spine fracture, rendering him a complete paraplegic.

Whitman joined the BCTLA to outline fact patterns, investigation considerations, liability theories, and litigation strategies of aerial device (bucket trucks) and landscaper electrocution cases.
