Boat Manufacturer’s Negligence Leads to Amputation of Teen’s Leg

After being ejected from a boat due to a sharp turn, our client’s leg was severed by the propeller. Attorneys Donald R. Fountain and Nancy La Vista hired marine engineers who determined that the boat could execute 180 degree or even 360 degree turns while going as fast as 45 miles per hour. During depositions, it was revealed the boat’s manufacturer insisted its boats be able to “turn on a dime” and provide a thrill to consumers not offered by other boats. The trial judge agreed that the boat manufacturer was careless enough to require punitive damages, and the defendant agreed to a confidential settlement.
