Urgent Safety Alert: Onewheel Issues Electric Skateboard Recall For All Models

Personal Injury Product liability Product Recalls BY

Clark, Fountain, La Vista, Littky-Rubin & Whitman, Florida’s Plaintiff Injury Powerhouse, is alerting consumers about a critical safety recall of all Onewheel Electric Skateboards. This recall comes in the wake of serious injuries and fatalities linked to the product. If you or a loved one have been affected, our firm is here to help.

The Issue

The recall focuses on the Onewheel’s “pushback” safety mechanism, which has proven to be “faulty and inconsistent.” This defect can lead to dangerous situations, including nosedives and sudden stops, resulting in severe injuries or even death.

Onewheel riders can experience a sudden failure of their board that can result in loss of balance and being thrown off resulting in catastrophic and serious injuries. Onewheel has acknowledged this issue and issued the voluntary safety recall for all models.

What’s Happened So Far

  • Four fatalities have occurred between 2019 and 2021.
  • Reported injuries include traumatic brain injury, concussion, paralysis, upper-body fractures, lower-body fractures, and ligament damage.

Company-Issued Recall

Onewheel has introduced a new safety feature called “Haptic Buzz,” designed to alert riders when nearing the board’s operational limits. However, this feature is not available for all models. Despite the new feature available on only some models, Onewheel boards are still at risk of posing a crash hazard and can be dangerous to riders.

Consumer Safety Recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises:

  • Stop Using the Board: If you own a Onewheel, discontinue use immediately.
  • Get a Refund: Owners of the original Onewheel or Onewheel+ can get a pro-rated refund in the form of credit toward a new board.
