On Tuesday, September 19th, Fiat Chrysler issued a voluntary recall of nearly 500,000 heavy-duty and medium-duty pickup trucks in the U.S. in order to inspect and replace potentially faulty water pumps. According to the automaker, some of its Ram pickup trucks may be fitted with water-pump bearings that, under certain conditions, can overheat and potentially cause fires in the engine compartment.
Affected vehicles in the recall include:
- Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, model year 2013 to 2017
- Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs, model year 2013 to 2017
Following customer reports, an investigation revealed that potentially faulty water pumps can trigger a warning light. Vehicle owners who observe warning lights are advised to immediately consult a licensed dealer for inspection and repairs.
Although Fiat Chrysler is not aware of any accidents or injuries connected to the potentially faulty water pump, a previous recall issued by the automaker earlier this year – which included 1.3 million pickup trucks equipped with defective software – was connected to at least two injuries and one death.
