Clark, Fountain, La Vista, Prather, Keen & Littky-Rubin is proud to announce that Partner David C. Prather has been appointed by Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson to serve on the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC). This is a great honor and an important public service role, as members of the JNC are responsible for evaluating and recommending potential candidates for positions as federal judges. This is David’s third appointment to the JNC.

With his appointment to the JNC Southern District Conference, David will be volunteering his time and insight to select the most qualified candidates to serve as federal judges in Florida. U.S. District Court Judges play an invaluable role in our legal system, and hear civil and criminal cases that commonly introduce challenging legal issues and produce precedent-setting rulings.

Because decisions made by federal judges have the potential to impact our laws and future cases, selecting the right individuals capable of impartially applying the law is critical to the rights and liberties of all Americans. Members of the JNC hold the important task of vetting potential candidates for their experience, temperament, restraint, and application of law consistent with the U.S. Constitution. Judges they recommend are sent to the President of the United States for consideration, and the U.S. Senate for confirmation.

David’s third appointment to the Commission speaks volumes about the respect and recognition he has earned over a legal career spanning more than 27 years. It also shines a light on his unique experience in both the criminal and civil justice system. A former Assistant Public Defender and Assistant State Prosecutor who now protects the rights of the seriously injured as a Board Certified Civil Trial Attorney, David has litigated before numerous judges and has become acquainted with the qualifications and characteristics required of the judiciary. His insight will prove valuable in evaluating potential candidates before the Southern District Conference.
