IKEA Recalls Beach Chair with Fingertip Amputation Hazard

IKEA, the Swedish furniture retailer, issued a recall for over 33,000 beach chairs due to the risk they pose as “fingertip amputation hazards”. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that IKEA received 13 accident reports worldwide, six of which resulted in fingertip amputations from the collapsing beach chair. Three of these incidents occurred in the United States.

The company stated that, after washing the fabric seat of the MYSINGSÖ beach chair, one might reassemble it incorrectly, which could lead to falls or finger entrapments. IKEA announced that anyone who purchased the MYSINGSÖ chair before February 2017 should return it for a full refund at any of their stores. They plan on releasing an updated version of the chair this month.
